Specimen 2027 | Stag Beetle
[lucanus capreolus]
The resemblance of the male’s mandibles to the horns of a stag, and their use in combat between males, much like with deer, gives the species its scientific and common names.
SPECIAL THANKS
to the Museum of York County
for their generous permission to paint right there in their Naturalist Center—so I could experience these beautiful creations up close and personal.
